Who May Apply:
People born in the former Portuguese
territories of Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra, Nagar Haveli are Portuguese Citizens,
including their descendants (children, grandchildren, i.e up to the third
generation).They may apply to attain Portuguese Nationality if they meet any of
the following requirements:
1) You should have been born in the former
Portuguese territories of Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli during the
Portuguese Sovereignty i.e before 19-December-1961.
2) Your parents should have been born in the
territories listed above during the period of Portuguese Sovereignty, that is
before 19-December-1961 even if the applicant(who is the child of the parents
mentioned above) was born in another country.
3) You should be married to a Portuguese
Citizen that meets the above requirements. (different laws apply for this
application)
4) You should be a grandchild of one born in
the territories mentioned above and before 19-December-1961. In this case the
direct descendant would not be alive, that would be your Parent who is the
child of the Grandparent mentioned. (Different laws apply for this kind of a
case.)
5) You must be able to prove residence during
the period of 1974/1975 (Where were you during this period)
Important:
The rights of all who were born in the former
Portuguese territories mentioned above during the period of Portuguese
Sovereignty that is before 19-December-1961 are guaranteed Portuguese
Nationality by the recording of his/her birth in Portugal. This is done based
on ancient documents(birth records) issued by the former Portuguese
administration in the territories mentioned above.
A person may apply for Portuguese Nationality
based on their birth during the period of Portuguese Sovereignty i.e before
19-December-1961, even after his/her death his/her children may apply.
